About Lindsay + My Philosophy

My name is Lindsay. I’m a photographer based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. I have a bright, light-filled studio in Uptown Waterloo and I love photographing families.

Becoming a photographer for me was not like many other photographer’s stories. I was not born with a camera in my hand. In fact, the photos I took when I was younger are pretty awful. I was, however, born with an insatiable desire to learn about humans and to help them see themselves in the same light that the people who love them most see them in.

I think it’s this desire that makes my work different.

Of course, the technical skill and ability to create an image came with a lot of dedicated effort.. but my work has always been rooted in my love for observing humans and helping to capture their essence.

I began my career in 2012. I had just finished my degree at the University of Waterloo in Geography + Environmental Management. I quickly discovered my interest in Geography was really an interest in humans and the places they called home.

Over the past 8 years, I have photographed families in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Bermuda and more. Sometimes these sessions have been part of larger events like weddings, and others they were documenting something as simple as a 5th birthday. Whatever you are celebrating, whether it be the birth of a new baby, or just every day life with your family - I would love to help you document your journey together. I truly believe that documenting your family is not only a gift you give to yourself, but to future generations. As your family grows and evolves, so too should your family photos. So let’s dust off your the old family photo album & get it ready for a few more pages.

I can’t wait to create something beautiful together!

My philosophy & a bit more about working with me…

  • Your family photos should be fun and representative of who you are at this moment in time. I love getting to know my clients and helping their personalities and nuances come through in their images.

  • My approach is un-posed, but I will always make you look like the best version of yourself.

  • The right outfit can make you feel amazing, if you need help with outfit choices just send me a message.. I’m always here to give advice!

  • No part of having photos taken should be stressful. I promise to help guide you through at every step!

  • I keep my sessions calm + fun. I pay attention to kids energy and help them find their zen/happy place. Sometimes it means we do a few deep breaths together; sometimes it means asking parents to hang out a few steps away from us for a few minutes so we can capture them in their most natural light. Whatever it takes, my goal is to always end on a high note without any tears.

  • I will edit every photo you receive, but not beyond reason. Your photos are meant to be heirlooms passed on through generations, so to me that means keeping a sense of reality in this snapchat-filter world we live in. Not only will I not put puppy dog ears on your pictures, I’ll also make sure you still have pores. All photos include basic colour-correction (edited to the same style you see on this site and on my instagram), but if you require any further editing just let me know before your session so we can discuss your options!

  • Photos are not meant to live on hard drives. I am always so happy to see when clients print their photos or already have a spot on their wall in mind for their prints before their session. We offer custom handcrafted photobooks, as well as prints & canvases. Please reach out to see how we can best preserve your memories, and get your photos off your laptop and in to the real world!

  • Personally & professionally, I believe in inclusion and equality. I offer my photography and friendship to everyone, regardless of religion, race, gender identity or sexual orientation. LGBTQ2IA+, multiracial and blended families are always welcomed.
